For this project, I took a look on how social media impacts me and society as a whole.
After taking the "Am I Addicted to Social Media Quiz" I got the results...
"You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits! Still, it's good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average of 8 hrs 41 mins on screens every day, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps. Do you need to rethink your social media habits and the amount of time you spend scrolling? "
After seeing my results, I'm not shocked by them as I constantly use my phone for fun and work purposes. As I average 6 hours screen time a day my goal is to cut that number in half.
In my opinion, I think social media has a 50/50 impact on society. I am able to learn new tricks and recipes from using social media. I also hear and learn about new events coming up around the city that I'd be interested in and want to see. However, on the negative side I often find myself comparing myself to others. I also feel behind in certain aspects when seeing others post graduations, starting families, etc.
The use of young adults on social media skyrocketed since 2005 by 78%. The data represents my social media usage as I'm currently a young adult.
Lowering my usage of social media will overall have a positive effect on my brain and help me enjoy the moment. Also lowering my usage will help stop my comparison with peers and realize I'm where I need to be.
