What is Kasma ?
What is Kasma ?
The Kutztown Area School Music Association (KASMA) is a non-profit booster club that supports the musical education programs for both vocal and instrumental students in the Kutztown Area School District, grades K-12. KASMA does fundraising to supplement the music director's budgets for new music, instruments / instrument repairs, special assemblies, workshops, and educational trips. Each music director receives $1, 500 a year from KASMA.
KASMA is run ENTIRELY by volunteers. If you have a child in the Kutztown Area School District you are automatically a member of KASMA, there are no fees or dues. There are many opportunities for you to get involved and support our talented musicians. To see a list fundraisers, go to the fundraising page, where you can also find ways to get involved.
Excellence in music is a long standing tradition at Kutztown Area School District and KASMA is essential to the musical education of our students. We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of our music students here at Kutztown Area School District. A Note From the Directors
Kutztown Area School District has been recognized as a 2018 Best Community in Music Education by the NAMM Foundation for our commitment to music education for our students. The NAMM Foundation, is a global non-profit organization that promotes opportunities for people of all ages to make music. In cooperation with the researchers at the University of Kansas, NAMM examined information on hundreds of schools and school districts across the nation to identify those, like ours, who are making investments in arts education. With the support of our parents, teachers and community, our students are benefitting from music education in more ways than meet the eye, or ear.
Leading research continues to demonstrate that music education builds skills which span a lifetime, enriching our children beyond their school years. After two years of music education, researchers found that participants showed larger improvements in how the brain processes speech and in reading scores than their less involved peers and that students who are involved in music are not only more likely to graduate high school, but also attend college as well.
Music in an essential part of life, and we couldn't be prouder of the students, parents, and teachers in our community who recognize that the cognitive, social and behavioral benefits of music education are designed to last a lifetime.
