My Teaching Philosophy

I believe that through education, students and individuals will gain knowledge and multiple skills that will lead or help assemble a foundation that is necessary to build a successful life. It is my job as an educator, especially for young adolescents, to encourage, support and educate those individuals, regardless of personal beliefs, backgrounds and needs. It is my job to make a positive and lasting impact and relationship with others.

As a teacher, I want to encourage life-long learning habits, critical thinking skills and be a mentor for my students. It is important to also establish a sense of community among my classroom as well. I want my students to feel safe and comfortable while also inspire students to desire a need for their own education.

I will build a sense of community by being honest and reliable with students. I want to make sure students set their own expectations for themselves and goals that pertain to them and will allow them to grow as they do. I will use methods that involve students recognizing diversity and using that to make all students feel included and know they are a vital part in our community.

My teaching style and methods will also reflect upon my students needs in order to become the best educator I can be. It is my job to assess students and their progress to determine how we can collaboratively make the most of their learning. I want my teachings to be meaningful and not simply memorization. I want my students to gain knowledge and skills that can be used throughout their future. This also means catering to different teaching and learning styles. I want my students to know I understand them and accept them.

I will continue to grow as an educator throughout my career as there will always be time for new methods and teaching styles that arise. I will also improve my teaching by looking at student evaluations and always asking for feedback. Again, my job as an educator is to encourage, support and educate those individuals and help students build a healthy foundation for preparation for life outside of school.
