About Me
Hello, I'm Karisa Cloutier, an instructional designer and learning experience designer passionate about creating engaging, meaningful learning experiences.
My career in education began in 1998 as a music teacher, where I spent over two decades working with learners in elementary and middle school environments. Those years in the classroom shaped my approach to learning design—grounded in empathy for learners, clear communication, and creating learning experiences that are both engaging and effective.
My interest in technology and learning led me to explore web development, coding, and digital design tools early in my career. When the global pandemic accelerated the transition to virtual learning in 2020, I became a resource for colleagues navigating new technologies and online teaching strategies. This experience ultimately led me to pursue a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on Instructional Design and Technology, where I deepened my expertise in learning theory, instructional strategy, and technology-enhanced learning.
Today, I work professionally as a Learning Experience Designer, designing courses and training programs for higher education and organizational learning environments.
My work includes:
Designing enterprise learning experiences for Southern New Hampshire University
Serving as Lead Instructional Designer for a Professional Role Transition Nursing course at Western Governors University
Creating interactive eLearning, instructor-led training, and multimedia learning assets
Applying learning science, gamification strategies, and technology integration to improve learner engagement and knowledge transfer.
I enjoy combining instructional design strategy with creativity and technology, whether that means developing competency-based higher education courses, designing interactive eLearning experiences, or exploring innovative tools such as gamification and AI-enhanced learning.
My portfolio showcases both interactive design work and case studies from real-world instructional design projects. While many of the courses I develop are owned by the institutions I work with and cannot be shared publicly, I provide insight into the design process, learning strategies, and impact behind those projects.
At the core of my work is a simple goal:
to design learning experiences that are engaging, meaningful, and truly support learner success.
