DODGE THE BEATS went on to become one of the first games I ever made and released. It was intially used as a learning experience to better learn and understand the unity engine. It consists that of a minigame that contains 3 levels. Each with it's own theme and level design. To be honest I don't really know how long this took for me to program but I would guess for it's entirety... about a year.
Why did it take so long? Well I didn't really have much experience in C#, which was one of the main programming languages unity used. It was because of this and my little knowledge on programming and ACTUAL game design that I ended just making whatever I could while also still having fun. (I actually got so lazy with programming, that there's a bug in which you can jump infinite amounts of times). But for a first game, I can honeslty say it isn't bad. Especially since it was mainly a learning experinece.
DODGE THE BEATS was initially just a direct copy of a game that was in a tutorial series. Which was made by the Youtube channel Brackeys. I will link it on the bottom of this section in case anyone else might be interested in learning a thing or two from the playlist. Despite the fact, the game was made based off of a tutorial series. I did decide to get a little creative with my knowledge. I added sound, textures and even gave the three levels a little scenery and theme. After about what seemed like almost a YEAR making video games. I had successfully done it. I had made my first ever game.
Now I will admit, I had gotten a little lazy while trying to work on the game. For example, the bug I mentioned in the previous section is indeed exploitable and you can indeed glitch out of bounds. I also got a tad bit lazy organizing the whole project. Having files mixed and moved around everywhere. So i'll admit I never was the best game dev from the start and to be honest it's gonna be a long way before I can at least be decent in the programming and game dev space.
