Kansas English is published once a year, and reviewers play an integral role in ensuring the high quality, relevance, and importance of articles published in the journal. Depending on the reviewer pool and the number of submissions, editorial review board members generally review 1-2 manuscripts (approximately 4-15 pages in length) per year.
Review Process
Reviewers are given approximately 3-4 weeks in February to evaluate manuscripts based upon the significance of the piece to the field of English Education, soundness of the methods/approach employed/described, and clarity of the writing. Reviewers are encouraged to provide constructive feedback and suggestions for revision; the review process should be educative for authors. Additionally, all reviewers select one of the following recommendations for the manuscript:
Accept (only minor revisions needed, if any)
Conditionally Accept (author makes some revisions, or editor makes revisions with author’s consent)
Revise and Resubmit for Review (substantial revisions necessary; author may resubmit with no guarantee of publication)
Reject (even if revised, the manuscript is not suitable for publication in Kansas English because of content, style, conventions, or audience)
Finally, if the editor asks an author to revise and resubmit, reviewers read and respond to the revision.
