Pg 2 SB 815 permits Texas A&M University—Corpus Christi to charge in-state tuition to Mexican students who demonstrate financial need.
SB 816 puts the name change of Texas A & M University - Corpus Christi from Corpus Christi State University into state law.
SB 1042 allows the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to establish student exchange programs with other nations.
SB 1044 puts the name change of Texas A & M University Kingsville from Texas A & I University into state law.
76th Legislation
Pg 3 SB 590 Truan & Rangel established the Texas A & M University System Coastal Bend Health Education Center and provided guidelines for its operation.
Pg 4 Senator Truan passed the legislation and funding to create the Coastal Bend Health Education Center, with $2,573,532 from General Revenue supplemented by revenues from the investment in the Texas settlement of the Tobacco Lawsuit.
77th Legislation
Pg 1 $400 million in appropriations for the universities that serve South Texas. Texas A & M- Corpus Christi, Texas A & M- Kingsville, University of Texas Pan-American, University of Texas at Brownsville, and Texas A & M International.
$231.6 million in tuition revenue bonds for additional campus construction at these institutions
A major achievement of the last Legislature was the passage of the bill sponsored by Carlos Truan and State Rep Irma Rangel, which established a pharmacy school at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The legislature also approved a bill to provide counseling for all public school students and their parents on the value of higher education, course requirements, and sources of financial aid.

Pg 3 Truan increased the appropriation for the Texas Grant Program that provided scholarships to any state university or, community college, or technical school, an increase of about $200 million for a total $295 million.
