The School Breakfast Debate
Senator Carlos Truan was strong supporter of the public school system. He authored bills that petitioned the Breakfast Program for students from low income families. He also fought for teachers to have a duty- free lunch period.
This article is an overview of the school breakfast program bill that Carlos Truan was hoping to get votes for. The school breakfast program is a bill that would require free or low-cost breakfast for school districts that have a %10 enrollment that are eligible for the school breakfast program. Unfortunately, there was opposition from Senator Willam Moore from Bryan. He threatened to filibuster and attack the bill. He even implied that he could not understand Truan when he spoke because, according to him, Truan had a hard-to-understand accent.
