Game Behavior Expectations
Prior To The Game:
If there is no school you need to get up before 9am and stay active during the day – we will have a spot for everyone to get together and “hang out”
If there is school we meet at 7:25 in the weight room
go to all of your classes—ON TIME – if you have an unexcused absence on game day you cannot play
Establish a routine – stick with what works.
Be prepared—read your scouting report during the day.
EAT – things that are easy on your stomach, stay away from greasy/meaty meals and sweets.
Hydrate – water and/or Gatorade.
Allow those to prepare in their own way—no loud music—use headphones.
Check your gear the night before—don’t wait until right before the game.
Be sure that your questions of the coaches are urgent.
Wear your jersey – like it is supposed to be worn – to school
BE ON TIME!!!
Walk Through:
No cleats on the gym floor – tennis shoes are okay, but make sure there is no grass/mud on them.
Quiet concentration – no playing catch unless you are a QB/WR.
Sit and talk about the most important thing happening that night….the upcoming game.
Be mentally “keyed” in
Our goal is no mental mistakes during walk through
BE ON TIME – Special Teams walk through first and if you are late you are taken off of the Special Teams.
On The Bus:
Quiet concentration – quiet conversations regarding the game are okay, everything else should be kept to yourself.
Sit in assigned seat.
Pants/shoes are on, carry on your helmet/shoulder pads/jersey.
You should be taped and ready to go – unless we are taping at the field
Uniform Guidelines: We want to convey the message to everyone watching the game that we are a TEAM, therefore we will:
Not wear any tape on part of our uniform including helmet, with the exception of spatting your shoes—white tape only which you provide
Under armor or other undershirts that show needs to be navy, white, or black.
Cover our back guards with our uniform.
Wear our team issued socks pulled up to our knees – any other socks should be worn under your team issued socks.
Be sure our gloves are NFHS certified.
Wear our helmet decals as instructed by the coaching staff.
Wear unaltered mouthpieces that cannot be clear or white.
Long belts must be tucked in or cut…no tape on your belt.
Wristbands need to be on the wrist
All helmet shields must be completely clear.
No “Livestrong” type bands.
All pads are unaltered and in proper places
During The Game
On The Field:
· We HUSTLE on and off the field when entering/exiting the field.
· We play hard until the whistle.
· We celebrate with our teammates.
· We never taunt or “show up” our opponents – gestures to the crowd or our opponents sideline are illegal, show a lack of class, and are unacceptable. Don’t “talk” to your opponents
· We help our opponent up after knocking them to the ground.
Off The Field:
· We keep our helmets on unless getting a wash.
· We are ALWAYS together as a team—no “Lone Ravens” off to the side (usually pouting about something).
· We support our teammates on the field—especially if you a starter and the backups are in.
· We stay “in” the game—you never know when your number may be called.
· We stay behind the blue.
After The Game
Win or lose we…
· Form a single file line at the 50 yard line with our helmets on to shake hands with our opponents.
· Meet with Coach Thomas at the 40 yard line for some quick post game comments. We will sing the fight song to the crowd after we win.
At home we….
· Say a quick “Hi” to our Mom’s and girlfriends, then quickly get upstairs to the boys locker room for more reflections on the game – you will be dismissed from the locker room.
On the road we…
· Get right to the locker room and collect your things and get on the bus.
· After we win the bus should have a “party” atmosphere.
· If we lose, the bus should be quiet reflection—please respect others right to grieve the way he seems fit (including the coaches).
