The Issue: Here you will find all the research on fast fashion. It explains the environmental impact, human impact, and psychology behind the fast fashion epidemic. Marketing techniques and overconsumption being promoted in the media create a closed economy in our country. Go to this page if you want to learn more about this and what you can do yourself to help.
Gallery: Here is a compilation of all of the items I made for this project. It consists of a total of 10 items all made from fabric that I previously had either from clothes from my relatives or my own closet. Each one has a name and a date of when I finished them.
Sewing diaries: Here is the biggest chunk of the sewing part of my capstone. For every single item shown in the gallery, there is a step-by-step tutorial on how I made each item from the old pieces of clothing. The point of these is to help show the process of making clothing from scratch and to show what it's like to do that from the fabric of old clothing and with multiple different fabrics. There is also an alterations section where I show a few examples. of how easy it is to use a sewing machine to fix little things on clothing items that make the biggest difference and could stop someone from throwing something away. The links to any sewing patterns I used were included and I also showed a few examples of making items from clothes you already have by tracing them. There are also multiple videos provided to show the specifics of things that would have been diffiuclt for me to upload to the website that other people probably woule explain better anyway, like certain stitches or how to pleat. I tried my best for all these items and they were all very time consuming but at least I was able to upcycle a bunch of me and my family's old clothes into new things that I am going to wear. Now they have a new life!
