Clean sweep was the project I made for my final year project for my undergraduate degree. the game is a hoard shooter with a focus on enemy & weapon variety and quick, dynamic movement
For this project I wanted to try something new for the hoard shooter genre, to do this i made a player character that was unique with them being able to sprint and slide to cover great distances and avoid enemies, but also have a grapple hook that allows them to snap onto a object and be pulled toward it, this tool also allows for players to get bursts of Verticality.
Around the map the player can also find more unique weapons to deal with the oncoming hoards, Basic weapons like pistols and shotguns can be found but if the player looks hard enough they can find more exotic weapons that like the charge rifle and explosive sniper rifle.
For this experience I wanted the enemies to be fun and interesting, to do this i made several different types of enemies that can challange the player and make them prioritise some targets over others.
there are basic enemies that can run towards the player and deal some damage, some more advanced types have bubble shields that block damage and the player gets knocked back when walking into it so they need to find another method to get through the shield , another is a self sacrifce based enemy that leaves a puddle of fire when killed to stop the player from staying in one spot for to long.
