NIGHT!

NIGHT! is a series of work started in Ōtautahi in the autumn of 2021. Capturing layers of lo-fi event posters in the central city brought up memories of being there before and after the devastating quakes–destruction, rebuilding, regathering. On further investigation of the subject in Omārōrō and beyond, I started to see the creative process represented in the images. A visual metaphor of change, adaptation, destruction, and creation; sculptural pieces built from the tatters of old posters returned to their flat origins in photographs. 

In a devastating revelation after photographing the first images in this series, I discovered incredibly similar files available from stock imagery sites, the final resting place of creativity…
