Moira is from my witch tarot project, which you can learn about here. Much of her design is based on Ginger’s colour scheme. I wanted her hair to be the same colour as Ginger’s robes, but it was too light and I couldn’t make it work. It was important that she had red hair due to its biblical connotations, as I said, it represents the blood of Christ and therefore rebirth, holiness most importantly salvation. It shows what she represents for Ginger but works really well for both characters as it also serves to symbolise the inherently sacrificial selfless roles women are often placed in.
I know it’s incredibly like her skin colour, which is usually not recommended, but I think it works very well for her here, and they’ll be more distinct in shading. Other than that, green and blue represent her more earthy/natural side, as well as blue having more biblical connotations with divinity, faith and heaven.
Ginger was raised as a worshipper of the earth gods but was converted to sky worship, acting as a royal spell caster. She is made out to be a pure, 'cleansed' version of the earthly worshippers that they all should aspire to be. She is referred to as not a witch, but a saviour.
She was much easier to design, the main religions in the story are clearly based on Christianity and paganism, so I mostly took reference from priest robes, but also depictions of Mary and Jesus. Hence, her final appearance has an outer priest type robe, with a light dress underneath similar to what Mary is often depicted wearing.
Her colours are also based on their aforementioned biblical relations.
This design is so simple but effective! She's very quickly become my favourite character to draw.
Characters for our Global Game Jam game, Aftershow. The theme was masks, and I really wanted to draw big circus costume type designs, so we did. I didn't have a lot of time for research, but one of my main inspirations were the designs in my favourite DS game, Magician's Quest: Mysterious Times (2008), as well as surrealist circus costumes.
Like above, please refer to here for a proper explanation of her character and my process making her.
Cathy is a teenager exploring a dystopian sci-fi layered city. She originally started as a more blank almost ghost like character that wanders the city, but her character developed a lot. Now she's much more prepared to take on the dangers before her. She's the daughter of a genius scientist and engineer turned doctor, though she only knows of the doctor part, and has a big interest in engineering despite her father's protests.
This shows in her design, a doctor or scientist coat on the outside, with dungarees underneath more associated with construction work and mechanics. Her bag reflects both her inventive side and the city's architecture.
Edith's story is set in medieval times, and is based on the legend of Damocles. I'd already decided on her facial features from previous art (such as the sword piece) and I knew I'd be changing her clothes all the time, so I focused mostly on designing her hair and vague style.
On the right is characters I made based on my computer monitors! One is a super fancy nice Alienware monitor while the other was £30, and I just found that juxtaposition very humorous, so I turned them into cute girls. I believe they were designed by silhouette first.
If I remember correctly, Edith and this character on the left, Elise, started as the same character that split into two as I developed them, hence they share some similarities in their personalities, themes and design.
Elise is actually a fandom character for Limbus Company (2024) (my favourite game). All the characters in it are based on those from various classic literature, Elise is based on Edgar Allan Poe's A Tell-Tale Heart (1843). However, her story is more so based on the roles women are often forced into in society, particularly in terms of parenting or care taking.
In the main 'present' section of her story, because of her bad experiences she's cut her hair as short as possible, trying to rid herself of her femininity and the things people may again expect from her should she take on such the role. Despite it, I gave her naturally very stereotypically beautiful feminine features, it is something inescapable for her. Her beauty is a burden she loathes to carry.
My current DND character, Talli Tagathinna Tadg Trough! She's a goblin bard also inspired by Don Quixote, essentially "what if Don Quixote was, instead of a knight, convincing people hes royalty or something" thus Talli was born. She's a former activist in the Grinner association who's rebelling against the monarchy, but seeing how dangerous things were becoming, decided to sow mistrust for the crown by just pretending to be the real queen herself who was so tragically banished from her rightful throne. Something so baffling people can't even tell if she's committing treason or just insane.
Hence, her design is based on the stereotypical concept of a princess or queen, big pink dress and blonde hair (her design drew a lot of inspiration from Claire François from I'm in Love with the Villainess 2018, especially the hair).
I made Donte in 2024 as a lot of my friends were really into the Percy Jackson series and making OCs for it, so I wanted to join in on the fun.
I'm not entirely happy with their design actually, particularly their hair, but I haven't gotten around to changing it. They're based on the original 1605 Don Quixote novel, among my favourites (I collect volumes of it! I have some really nice special editions, one of my copies is worth around £300). They're based on the idea of the Japanese Chunibyo trope, but what if it was knighthood instead of secret powers, hence some quirky almost scene aesthetics.
Their lighthearted and extravagant personality is contrasted by their strength and very violent nature. I based their body type on that of female shot put athletes (they're genderfluid but have a biologically female body). They're also always very covered up, hiding their scars.
Their character has always been incredibly fun and interesting to me, they're a blend of so many of my favourite things. They're much more self conscious than they appear to be, trying to suppress their naturally violent and brutal impulses to become a valorous knight, in the hopes that one day they'll lie so well it becomes the truth. They speak in old English and are, being a Percy Jackson OC, a demi-god child of Hecate, but it's pretty easy to remove that part of their character and put them in a non fantasy scenario.
