Mixed-Reality Vehicle Cyberattack Simulator
Modern vehicles are increasingly reliant on connectivity and automation, which expands their vulnerability to sophisticated cyberattacks. Automotive cybersecurity research therefore requires safe, flexible, and immersive environments to model and evaluate complex attack scenarios. We address this need by integrating a physical robotic car (PiCar-X) with a virtual cockpit environment (Meta Quest 3) to study threats in connected and autonomous vehicles. Within this conceptual framework, cyberattacks such as remote hijacking, spoofing, and jamming can be modeled in a controlled setting, enabling repeatable experimentation and systematic evaluation of detection and response strategies. This approach not only advances digital twin–enabled testbeds for vehicle security but also provides a novel means of visualizing and understanding the operational impact of automotive cyber threats for both research and education.
