One of the Goals of KAAS is to facilitate research among astronomers in the Kentucky area. One of our first endeavors on this path was the creation of the Kentucky Association for Research with LSST (KARL). The KARL project allows universities in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to buy into the Large Synoptic Survey Teleccope (LSST) corporation. This collaboration will allow us to be part of the preparations for one of the largest surveys to be undertaken in astronomy. Through this work our students, postdocs, and faculty will have the opportunity to develop new ways of using "Big Data".
