FYI: Department of Justice attacks the Southern Poverty Law Center. You may have heard that the DOJ has indicted the SPLC for paying for informants to infiltrate the KKK and other extremist groups. The ACLU of Alabama, Common Cause and other civil rights organizations are strongly backing the SPLC. Stay tuned on the best ways to oppose the use of the DOJ to intimidate organizations such as the SPLC, an organization that in the past has been a valuable ally to law enforcement in tracking and opposing hate groups. Read more from Common Cause here.
Take Action: Oppose Reauthorization of Section 702 of FISA. Indivisible urges us to tell Congress to NOT REAUTHORIZE Section 702 of the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). FISA was passed in 2008, to facilitate warrantless electronic surveillance of non-US citizens in other countries; however, courts have ruled that information gleaned “incidentally” about citizens' communications can also be searched, no warrant necessary. Despite being a civil liberties violation, Congress has routinely reauthorized Section 702 with bipartisan support. Learn more and contact Congress here. Alternatively, use 5Calls or contact your legislators directly.

PragerU - Thanks to Harriet for making us aware of the movement to make PragerU resources a part of school curriculums. This organization provides inaccurate, simplistic, and biased information on current and historical events. (Examples include videos presenting Black Lives Matter protests in a disparaging light and defending Columbus using a cartoon Columbus to state that slavery is “as old as time” and then adding that “being taken as a slave is better than being killed, no? I don’t see the problem.”) To learn more and to sign a petition click here.
