Our next Justice Team meeting:
Sun., March 29, 12:10 - 1:30 pm in the Reception Hall at Littleton United Methodist Church. This is Palm Sunday. Bring a snack or lunch, and a friend. All are welcome!
Littleton Police Chief Discusses ICE Policies. See this Littleton Independent news article in which Police Chief Doug Stephens discusses policies related to ICE and immigration enforcement.
Thanks to Brittany Hatcher for sharing about the impactful work of Project CURE in serving high need areas by distributed collected medical supplies and equipment. Check out the picture carousel below documenting LUMC's most recent Green Team volunteer outing to their facility. The Green Team volunteers there twice a year so check in with Mary to learn more. Use this Project CURE website link to volunteer or to donate to this worthy cause.
We delivered over 60 hand-made Valentine's cards to the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) to be presented to the people detained at GEO Aurora Detention Center, letting them know they are not forgotten on this Valentine's Day. Thanks to all who made cards, especially our youngest cardmakers, including Luke, Jack, Owen, Eva, Addi, Olivia, Eleri, and Charlie. Check out this story by 9News to see hear more details and to see some more of our cards.
We had about a dozen people affiliated with LUMC and our Justice Team at the "ICE Out" protest Saturday. It was good to be with others, acknowledging the loss of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, and taking a stand for justice and against ICE violence.
St. Andrew, St. Luke's, and Littleton United Methodist Churches Join Forces to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and to Take a Stand as a Community of Faith.
More than 30 members from the congregations of Littleton United Methodist, St. Luke's United Methodist, and St. Andrew United Methodist came together to march on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to honor the life of Dr. King and to stand up for the worth and dignity of all people as children of God. We carried our United Methodist justice signs and our church banners prominently, as our intention is to tell the world that ours is a faith of love and compassion; and to challenge the misuse of Christianity as a weapon to harm or exclude others.
After meeting in the LUMC parking lot to better get to know each other and to have a burrito, we rode the LUMC bus (thanks for driving Dave) and carpooled to join with thousands more to hear speeches by our city, state and federal elected officials and to march from City Park down Colfax to the State Capitol. It was a great day. The work continues!
Thanks to Monika and Dave for the videos and to Monika, Dave, Melissa, Scottie, Glenn and ... (who am I forgetting) for sharing your photos.
Renee Good Vigil
There were a bunch of us (I think 11) from our Justice Team and our extended South Metro Methodist group who attended the vigil for Renee Good on Sat. Jan. 10. Our guess is that there were 300 + people - and more than 1100 events nationwide. It was good to be there - to learn more about Renee Good, to digest more fully the jarring reality and manner of her death, and to stand with our community for justice for all. For more info about Renee Nicole Goodman shared at the vigil click here.
And do take action: Call your representatives and tell them to refuse to fully fund DHS without constraints on ICE and CBP. Use this ACLU hotline -1800-632-2268, or use 5calls.org. (When I was on the ACLU safety training they were encouraging all 4000 people on the zoom to call over the weekend.)
Standing for Justice at "No Kings" Rally
It was wonderful to be a part of a church community taking a stand for justice and working to preserve our republic at the rally on Saturday with 7 million others across the nation). We had at least a dozen of us at S. Broadway and Littleton Blvd, there were others on Sante Fe, Rob sent us some pictures from Arvada and a 9 News downtown photo, and we keep hearing from more of you who attended in a variety of metro locations. Send additional pictures and we will add them in!
Thanks to all of our postcard writers.
A number of us are preparing to send postcards to Michigan as part of the "Postcards to Swing States" effort; and many of us are sending postcards to our representatives in Washington as part of the "Majority Project." Check out these links to learn more and to join the effort:
“The Declaration by People of Faith
in Support of the Lives and Rights of Immigrants”
This declaration was presented by faith leaders on the steps of the state capitol Oct. 16th. It affirms: “We stand with our immigrant neighbors; we reject demonization; and we commit to nonviolent action for dignity, justice, and humane treatment.” To read the Declaration, click here. To sign the Declaration, click here. It is not too late to sign this declaration. The Justice Team was represented by Dave and Tony at this event.
We had fun, and built connections, at Longer Tables Littleton.
Click through the pictures below.
Glenn represented us at the “Stand Up for Democracy” protest.
The work continues . . .
Check out this 8-6-25 Update / 8-3-25 meeting notes (and photos). Be sure to review Kim's "Christian Nationalism" notes as well as the various opportunities for engagement. We have an incredible group of people finding daily actions to make a difference!
This I Believe: Good Trouble Lives On . . .
We joined the national call to action on Thursday, July 17, at S. Sante Fe Dr. and W. Bowles. Thanks to Karen, Brian, Angela, Harriet, Kim, Mary, and Tony for representing our team. (Who did I miss? Rob were you there? :)) Check the seven pictures below. We only had rain and wind for a short time. The car horns of support were appreciated! We will keep standing up for justice!
Justice Team at Rally
Our Justice Team at LUMC was represented well at the Rally on June 14th. There were 17 of us either directly or indirectly associated with LUMC in attendance, joining with around 1500 other protesters at Sante Fe and Bowles. This was one of more than 50 protests in Colorado, some formally organzed and others more informal "pop-up" protests, and approximately 2000 protests nationwide. It is wonderful to be a part of a team of people who are engaged, passionate, and informed - people who care about our neighbors and those who are suffering, and who are determned to turn our faith into action!
