Hello! I'm June, or in full-name terms, Juniper Lumi-Aspen. I would consider myself somewhat of an artist, though i also (try) to do lots of other things like writing, worldbuilding, games design/development and photography. Because of my condition and life-long struggles with ADHD, i find working on long-term projects and developing new skills a challenge, however i still persist doing what i can with the capacity i am given.
I do still enjoy my entertaining activities though: i (obviously) enjoy playing video games (mostly narrative RPGs, grand strategy games and the occasional platformer or shooter) and am a huge fan of narratives in gaming, many of which have and still do inspire me to eventually become my own storyteller through game development. aside from the aforementioned hobbies, i also enjoy watching films (the fun and complex narratives of knives out or the eclectic aesthetics and emotional narrative of i saw the tv glow) aswell as anime (the deep meaningful themes of neon genesis Evangelion or fantasy worlds like Frieren and Witch hat atelier). i also (shockingly!) like going outside, usually on thoughtful yet aimless walks.
i am a naturally curious person, meaning i find learning new things rather fascinating! with how it is having autism, i can be somewhat difficult to work with or understand sometimes (and i, likewise, find others difficult to work with and understand) however i regardless hope to meet and collaborate with other like-minded people.
i am very much a novice game developer and 3D modeller (in fact, i am a novice in many things) however i am very much eager to develop and learn, so that i can make the projects i desire to create! i would say i am somewhat proficient at writing and art, having been cultivating these skills on my own for around 4-5 years now.
i also know my way around computers and software, though not to any professional coding degree (coding is, in fact, one of the skills i am eager to brush up on!). i can use image manipulation software like adobe photoshop or paint.net, art software like clip studio paint or ibis paint and video editing software like adobe premier pro rather proficiently.
there is absolutely nothing better in my opinion then an RPG passion project with an incredible story and fantastic characters that elicit strong emotions. they are what inspired me to be the artist i am (trying) to be today!
a lot of these stories are a huge inspiration for my approach to storytelling not just in video games but overall: to this day i still dream of creating a game that personally impacts somebodies' life the way that the games i love have affected mine.
i have always had an interest in the theme/genre of fantasy. the idea of magic systems and the vast worlds that can be built from such a multi-faceted genre is very interesting to explore for me.
i love nothing more than creating my own mystical worlds different from ours: unique environments, circumstances, cultures and people that do not or cannot exist in our real world. i find the intentional messaging and meanings in the formation of these worlds, likewise, just as fascinating.
In stars and time: my favorite game of all time. an narrative RPG story filled with lovable characters and heart, all towards an emotionally resonant conclusion about mental health and family.
Deltarune/Undertale: the classic choice of strange queer artists with quirks (like me!). i love it for many of the same reasons i love in stars and time, though with the added witty humour and enjoyable gameplay of Deltarune. also, the music of both games is incredible both to listen to and in their layered meaning.
Celeste: the quintessential difficult indie platformer. i love celeste's simple yet stylish visuals and its deceptively simple yet heavily thought-out gameplay. it is a testament example to how you can make a game be mind-numbingly difficult while simultaneously being extremely fun at each mistake. and it manages to do all that to make the impactful story it is telling, being also a great example of gameplay servicing a narrative while also being able to stand on its own.
Night in the woods: there may be a theme being formed among these games... night in the woods really is a perfect sum of what i enjoy in narrative-driven games: a thoughtful narrative which covers personally resonant topics, a cast of likeable and relatable characters, gorgeous visuals, great music that enhances the story, and of course, a whole lot of heart.
skyrim: the elder scrolls V: skyrim is arguably rather the oddball in this series of games, because it is a game near and dear to me for very different reasons. skyrim is a game i adore for its immersive and complex world, for offering a sandbox that has layers upon layers of intricacy and adventure to explore, while also providing, though admittedly not too many layers of depth, a fun and engaging RPG gameplay experience. there is a reason this game has become a classic to many.
Neon genesis evangelion: an experimental story which, through the subversion of the genre it is within, becomes one of the most layered explorations of humanity and by far one of the most unique works of art i have yet seen.
Frieren beyond journey's end: a gorgeous animation dense in its existential themes and in-depth exploration of its titular character, as she navigates a world she could never possibly relate to.
witch hat atelier: this is one of the most extraordinarily-drawn anime i haves seen, complementary to one of the most extraordinarily-drawn manga i have seen. aside from its visuals, it does well to create a series of likeable characters who all feel like their own people with their own human stories.
Chainsaw man: a bold, quirky and heartfelt subversion of conventions that travels into complex directions many other writers would not touch, all with dazzling animation to boot.
attack on titan: a masterclass in storytelling and world-building, servicing a very thought-provoking story. this anime is a flourishing demonstration on how to create a mind-shattering twist reveal, not just once but twice.
