Hi, my name is Jun Han Bae.
Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The most recent research I am working on it is about 'Autonomous Driving System for Self Driving Cars', especially in rural road conditions.
Prior to joining UIUC, I received a Ph.D. candidate at Polytechnic Institute, Purdue University. I am originally from Korea (south) and received a B.S. (bachelor's) in mechanical engineering at Yonsei University in 2011. After graduation, I joined STX Offshore & Shipbuilding company as a mechanical designer. I was the junior manager of the machinery design team and project manager of two projects: 58,000 DWT and 181,000 DWT Bulk Carrier through 2012.
In 2012 fall, I enrolled the graduate program at Purdue University. I received M.S. (master's) in mechanical engineering technology (2014), and the research was about supersonic flow analysis (Thesis Title: “Analysis of the Ping-Pong Ball Gun-Theoretical & Computational Approach”). I continued my degree program to extend my research area to robotics. I was one of the founding members of the Smart Machine and Assistive Robotics Technology (SMART) Lab under Dr. Byung-Cheol Min's supervision.
My goal is to become a professional robotics engineer, and I will continue my career in the area of robotics.
I met my wife, Hyelyn when I was 12. We went to the same elementary school, and we were classmate. After graduation, we met again at the alumni reunion in 2003. I fell in love with her, and our love bore fruit in 2015. Now, my wife and I are the parents of three (3) children, Eilyn (6), Jayden (4), and Adelyn (2). They are all precious to me and hope that they grow healthy.
