Lab Introduction

Welcome to the Human Service Organizations Lab!

Our lab studies organizations that seek to improve the well-being of individuals and communities, including social welfare agencies, social enterprises, nonprofit organizations, and other human service organizations. We examine how these organizations respond to emerging social needs, develop and deliver services, support the professionals who work within them, and create meaningful social impact.

From an organizational and institutional perspective, our research explores the people, structures, cultures, strategies, and environments that shape how human service organizations operate and address complex social problems. We are particularly interested in organizational practices, professional experiences, social entrepreneurship, and the development of innovative and sustainable approaches to human services.

Our research also extends to the well-being and social inclusion of young adults, as well as the use of AI and digital technologies in human services. Across these areas, we aim to produce rigorous and practice-relevant research that contributes to better organizations and services and strengthens the agency and capacity of individuals and communities.
