Education has always been a transformative force in my life, shaping my understanding of the world and my place within it. I firmly believe that higher education is a human right and that everyone deserves the opportunity to engage in critical thinking and self-reflection. This process enables individuals to make informed choices about their identities and futures. My commitment to higher education stems from a desire to empower others, helping them realize their full potential and exceed expectations, both their own and those imposed by society. I also believe in the transformative power of education because I have experienced it firsthand; it has empowered me and created many opportunities in my own life.
A key part of my philosophy is the need to redefine leadership. We need to not only change what leaders look like, but also redefine what a leader can be. True change can happen when leaders remain true to themselves once they have gotten into leadership positions. This is the only path to genuine social mobility. By empowering communities and future leaders to see themselves as leaders, without conforming to traditional definitions, we foster real equitable change.
My ultimate goal is to develop students who are capable of thinking critically and recognizing the liberating power of an education. Knowledge is both enlightening and empowering, and it is through education that we can truly change the world. Knowledge is power and having experienced this life-changing gift of an education, I cannot see myself not sharing this beautiful gift with others. Preventing one from receiving education is a disservice to all communities.
Targeting underrepresented communities is at the heart of my mission. By dedicating my life to empowering these groups, I aim to understand and uplift them, as I wish to be understood and uplifted. Our differences are our strengths. When we educate a person, we lift communities and each other. I am committed to bridging gaps and fostering an inclusive, empowered society through the transformative power of higher education.
Reciprocity is also central to my philosophy. I believe in speaking things into existence and giving what I wish to receive. This involves reminding others of their worth, countering negativity, and empowering students and colleagues alike. By sharing my story and being a source of positivity, I aim to be a bit of sunshine in the education system—a kind face, a warm embrace, a shoulder to cry on. I strive to offer real human connection and emotional intelligence. My story reflects the stories of the students I serve, and I am committed to providing support and encouragement in a world that can be cold and often filled with negativity.
I firmly believe that higher education is not just a privilege but a fundamental human right.
