The artifact that I am using is the lesson plan regarding concentration camps in the Holocaust. In particular, I am looking at the prior student knowledge section of this lesson plan. The lesson plan was made in order to see what information students had already known regarding the holocaust in concentration camps. The lesson dives into information that students already made have known regarding this topic by having students begin the activity by listing information that they may have already known. The importance of the artifact is to exemplify that students are coming from different backgrounds and levels of education. It was used for me as a way to assess. See the information of the students who have been walking into my classroom regarding this topic.
The importance of the artifact is that it serves as a way for me to better understand what information students may be walking into the classroom with regarding the topic of discussion. It allows me to assess and “better understand students, cultural language, stick, cognitive, physical, and social-emotional differences”. (3C) the artifact also allows me to better comprehend, and “consider the needs of each student when planting instructions” (3C) it does this due to the prior student knowledge section of the lesson plan I am able to see what information in Student already understands about the topic and saves me the time from having to return information the student may already know. The artifact also allows me to develop plans based on student responses and provides for different pathways based on student needs.” (3M) I was able to assess what information the student needed to comprehend based on previous lesson plans in order to create achievable goals that the students can obtain success within this lesson plan.
I’m a major learning objective for myself that occurred for this lesson plan with the importance of being able to assess and understand prior student knowledge. Allowed me to realize that, instead of relaying information of the student might already understand I was able to dive into new information and expand their comprehension, due to the fact that many of my students had a basic understanding of what occurred in the holocaust and concentration camps. This is important to me as an instructor because it saves me time in reexplaining information that students might already know, and it allows me to dive into new information to expand their knowledge.
This artifact was an exit ticket regarding civil rights leaders, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. In the previous lesson we had a little bit deeper into their ideologies, and what they have believed in regarding protesting for civil rights. This served as an exit ticket for students to be able to highlight some of the attributes each leader did, and compare and contrast their two ideologies in a short 5 to 6 paragraph explanation as to how they are different. This exit ticket was used with juniors in high school and allowed me to understand what information students have been able to comprehend from my lecture regarding the two leaders.
The importance of the artifact was to allow me to see what information in Student comprehended based on the lecture, and one information I needed to re-examined and focus on for the next period and allowed me to “ develop plans based on student responses and provide for different pathways based on the students needs” (3M) the exit ticket served as a way for me to see what information needed to be re-examined, or re-introduced to students to ensure comprehension and success with future lesson plans. It allowed me to really see what information my students understood and what information needed a little bit more work. By doing this, it allowed me to readjust and reevaluate future lesson plans by examining the information and results the student was able to produce.
Something that was learned for me was the importance of informal assessment on students. It allows the instructor to gauge the information that their students have comprehended and adjust future lesson plans to ensure complete comprehension of the materials. Understanding this has allowed me to develop as an instructor by ensuring that the students are not only completing assignments, but comprehending long-term information that could be applied to feature lessons and units. Exit tickets are a type of informal assessment that I will bring into my future classroom due to the success it brings about in assessing students comprehension skills.
