What is the jsyb?

Founded in 2022, the Jazz Sudbury Youth Band is an ensemble comprising students in grades 9-12 from the Greater Sudbury area. This auditioned ensemble rehearses every Monday from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School.

Students who are accepted into the ensemble are expected to be leaders at their individual schools and must continue to be committed members of their school bands. This group performs at various events and festivals throughout the year.

Rehearsals:

Monday's 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm @ Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School

Upcoming Performances:

NOmf 2024, Sudbury Music Festival 2024, MusicFest Canada "The Nationals" Toronto 2024

The JSYB is led by a team of some of Sudbury's finest musicians and educators. These passionate directors inspire and prepare the ensemble for performances and festivals. They foster strong musicianship skills and leadership in all members and are building the foundation of the future of Sudbury's professional musicians.

The 2023-24 JSYB is led by Marc Taillefer, Brittany Goldsborough, and Peter Scherzinger. The Jazz Sudbury liaisons are Allan Walsh and Carolyn Otto.

All members are required to audition for this ensemble. Material for auditions is linked on this website.

Auditions are a chance to demonstrate your skills to the directors, to chat, and to get to know your goals and past experiences.

It is a low-pressure, low-stress, informal getting to know, and hear you, audition.

We aim to provide a diverse musical experience within an inclusive environment that develops creativity and leadership in our youth while fostering a love for music and providing opportunities for artistic expression in a safe environment.
