Mr. Mitch McIntyre 

Founding c0-Director, Director 2022-Present

Mr. McIntyre holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in jazz performance from York University and a Bachelor of Education from Queens University. For six years, Mr. McIntyre was the music teacher and Band Director at Sudbury Secondary School, before accepting his current position at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School. Currently, Mr. McIntyre teaches instrumental music and directs the Sr. Concert Band, Grade Nine Band, and Jazz Band at Lo-Ellen Park. 

Mr. McIntyre's Concert Bands and Jazz Bands have consistently earned invitations to compete and perform at the national level. He has also directed high ranking bands internationally. 

Mr. McIntyre is very excited to be one of the Directors of the Jazz Sudbury Youth Band and to have been involved in the creation of this group. He looks forward to working along side two excellent music educators, Brittany Goldsborough and Marc Taillefer!

Ms. Brittany Goldsborough

Co-Director 2023-Present

Brittany Goldsborough is a bassist and educator with 13 years of experience in high school music teaching. Holding a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education from McGill University, she has achieved numerous awards and recognition for her leadership of concert bands, jazz bands, and string ensembles. 

With a passion for both upright and electric bass, Brittany regularly performs with the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra, The North Bay Symphony, YES Theatre (Sudbury Theatre Center), chamber groups, 2V+ (classical and rock fusion band), and is also an active member of the jazz community, performing with various ensembles including the Sudbury Jazz Orchestra and mentoring young musicians in the Jazz Sudbury Youth Band. 

MR. Peter Scherzinger

Co-director 2023-Present

Peter Scherzinger, trumpet player and composer, has attended Humber College, York University, Laurentian University, Nippissing University and the University of Toronto. He has performed with many local groups including the Northern Brass Quartet, the Northern Brass Choir, the Sudbury Jazz Orchestra, Gary DiSalle and The Affordables, Patricia Cano, Stephan Paquette, and the Sudbury Symphony.

He has also performed for Joan Rivers, Bobby Vinton, Hal Linden and in musicals for Yes Theatre, Theatre Cambrian and the Sudbury Theatre Centre. He currently is retired from teaching at Lasalle Secondary School, has received a teaching excellence award from the Rainbow District School Board and has taught trumpet lessons for many years for the Laurentian University music program.

Peter has released two CD's with the original jazz group Broche à Foin, "Hommage a Anonyme" and "People We Have Known". The second CD won the MFM album of the year award in 2011. He has a band new solo album “Crashing Through Shadows” on all streaming services.

Mr. Allan Walsh 

Jazz Sudbury Liaison 

As Artistic Director of Jazz Sudbury Festival Allan is passionate about the local music scene and promotes jazz music throughout the year with various concerts and club dates throughout Sudbury.

Mr. Walsh was an active member of the music faculty at Laurentian University and Cambrian College in Sudbury, Ontario for the past 35 years. He is an accomplished clarinetist, saxophonist and flutist. While on a fellowship at the, 'Berklee College of Music" in Boston Allan held the 2nd tenor saxophone chair with the "Hal McIntyre Orchestra". He was also a member of the Canadian contingent at the "13th International Montreux Jazz Festival", in Switzerland.

Allan directed the Laurentian University Jazz Combo and has been an adjudicator for the 'Northern Ontario Music Festival' and for the 'Musicanada Festival' Allan is also a juror for FACTOR (the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings).

Ms. Carolyn Otto

Jazz Sudbury Liaison 

Carolyn has served on the OMEA board of directors in a variety of roles since 1999. She retired in 2016 following a 31-year career teaching secondary school instrumental, vocal music and guitar. She is a saxophonist and drummer who regularly performs in the Sudbury area. Depending on the season, Carolyn is often outdoors, enjoying some travel, hiking, camping, paddling or shooting photos.

Mr. Marc Taillefer 

Founding co-Director, Past-Director 2022-2024

Mr. Taillefer taught music at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School for 34 years and recently retired in June 2022.  During his career, he directed countless gold-standard Jazz Bands at MusicFest Canada and Heritage Festivals International.  Wanting to continue his involvement with young musicians and jazz bands, he approached Mitch McIntyre and Meghan Sanderson with the idea of starting a youth jazz band.  The result is what is happening today!

He has performed his entire career.   He is presently a member of the Nickel City Dixie Stompers, the Sudbury Jazz Orchestra, and has performed previously with the Northern Brass, the Northern Brass Choir, the Northern Ontario All-Star Jazz Band, the Montreal Youth Orchestra

He also directed and produced many musicals at Lo-Ellen.  He also had leading roles in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, 9 to 5 and several other productions with Theatre Cambrian and the Sudbury Performance Group.
