When are auditions?
Auditions take place in the fall, usually near the end of October. All members must audition each year. We know you work hard and practice regularly!
What if I miss auditions or feel confident to join later in the year?
Keep checking the site; if new positions become available, they will be posted!
What is the time commitment?
The JSYB rehearses on Monday nights from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Attendance to all rehearsals is mandatory. Occasionally, leading up to a performnace, we add additional rehearsals that are agreed upon by the entire band.
Attendance at all rehearsals is very important, there is no bench in band, we can't afford to miss you!
Members are expected to be at all performances. Dates and times will be given well in advance to plan around.
What instruments can i play?
The JSYB accepts the following instruments:
Flute, Clarinet, Saxophones (Alto, Tenor, and Bari), Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium/Baritone, Bass, Guitar, Drums, Mallet Percussion, Tuba, F Horn, Piano.
do i need to have experience?
All players in the JSYB already play in their school concert and jazz bands. Members are expected to continue to play in their school groups as leaders and exemplify good musicianship and rehearsal habits.
how can i support the band?
Are you interested in supporting the Jazz Sudbury Youth Band? We are always accepting donations to help support our programming!
You can help support us by providing funds to bring in guest clinicians, teachers, and artists, pay for festival registration and transportation fees, pay our directors, or set up a fund to help dismantle the barrier to education and performance for underprivileged students!
