Ecotourism in Bohol

ボホールの人々はエコツーリズムを実践しています。Dr. Staintonはエコツーリズムを「持続可能な観光の例であり、【自然をベースにして】【社会を尊重し】【持続可能な管理をされる】の３つの要素から成り立っている」と説明しています。
ボホールの人々は自然の本質を見つめており、そして生まれながらに平和を愛しています。それは、ボホールの古い教会を見れば感じることができます。人々は1890年代のフィリピン革命の時、戦いではなくて、友好を広げることを選び教会を建設しました。このようなボホールの人々の心は、スペインの探検家レガスピがボホールを訪れた時に、ボホール人の長であるSikatuna首長が訪問者を平和の条約で迎え、ボホール人の血を守ったことに思いを寄せて作られたSandugo記念碑からも感じることができます。
現在ボホールは多くの人が訪れる観光地になっていますが、それはエコツーリズムを推進した結果です。さらに、パンデミックにより、ボホールの動植物に対する感謝の意識が高まり、サイクリングやキャンプ、郊外観光、蛍ウォッチングやナイトサファリでのターシャの見学やターシャ保護区、エコリゾートであるAmarela Resortに代表されるようにエコツーリズムが 盛んになっています。
一方で、観光業が盛んになるにつれて、環境保護の課題にも直面しています。これはボホールの人々にとって、観光業をプラス面とマイナス面の両方の視点から考えなおすチャンスともなっています。ボホールの人々は観光業が自分たちの日々の食卓を豊かにしたことを知っています。そのため、例えばロボック・リバー・クルーズでお客様をもてなしてから、地元の人々は午後に川を休ませる時間を設けています。また、希少動物であるターシャに感謝しながら観察し、野生動物を邪魔しないことをお客様に理解してもらい、ターシャに十分な睡眠時間を与えるようにしています。このような持続可能な実践により、目に見えるよい影響がありました。
そして、ボホールの人々は、お客様にも環境への影響を最小限に抑えた活動を推進しています。ボホールのエコツーリズムは現在のコミュニティ習慣を尊重することを伝える教育主導型となっています。その一つの例として、Getafeの町にある広大なマングローブ樹林、その中でもBanacon島にある425ヘクタールのマングローブ樹林があげられます。このマングローブ樹林は、住宅の建設に木材を提供するだけではなく、コミュニティ住民の多大な努力により、台風からコミュニティを守る役割を果たしてくれています。この偉業は漁師がマングローブの苗を植えて、薪を作り、生計を立てようとしたところから始まったと誰が想像できるでしょうか。最初は周囲から差別的な扱いを受けていましたが、彼のハードワークが成功したことに、周囲の人も感銘を受け、同じようにマングローブを植え始めました。ほんの少しの努力が大きな偉業を導き、このマングローブはアジアで最大規模になりました。
ボホールの人々はアシン・ティブオクと呼ばれるAlburquerqueの伝統的な海塩のボールや、TubigonやInabangaの伝統デザインである織物、カラマイ（Calamy）と呼ばれるJagnaのお菓子、そしてカカオや牡蛎などをコミュニティと文化を守るためにエコツーリズムを活用しています。幸運なことにボホールの人々はエコツーリズムを通して、人々の世界への貢献の仕方を変容させることができるコミュニティを作り上げました。それは個人の行動が、「密猟者からエコツーリズムに参加する献身的な人」へ変容したようなものです。これらに関わる人々の心は利益ではなく、旅行者のお金が地域社会や自然に分配されるようにという深い志があります。このようなエコツーリズムへの素晴らしい変容は、観光客に旅行や探究の機会を提供するだけでなく、地域社会がその美しさを現在だけでなく後世までつなぎ、未来の世代に見てもらえるように、持続可能な習慣を教育していきたいというボホールの人々の思いも反映しています。

初めての飛行機の旅から, 美しいボホール島に足を踏み出した瞬間、私は歓迎の気持ちに満たされました。故郷バレンズエラシティから900km以上も離れたこの美しい島で行われる日本語スピーカーズフォーラムに参加することで、さらなるスリルと興奮を感じました。基調講演、活動、フィールドワークを含むこのイベントを通じて、エコツーリズムに関する貴重な洞察を得ることができました。
ボホールビーファームでの滞在は、故郷から遠く離れているにもかかわらず、まるで家にいるかのように感じさせ、格別な経験をさせてくれました。さらに、ファームの素晴らしいサービスと魅力的な雰囲気は、私たちにより快適さをもたらしました。ボホール ビー ファームは、優れた宿泊施設を提供するだけでなく、ボホールの豊かな文化を紹介することで、エコツーリズムの概念を体現しています。ガイド付きツアーでは、健康的なアイスクリーム、野菜スナック、マルンガイスプレッド、手工芸品など、地元産と手作りの製品に驚かされました。
ミンダナオ海の息を呑むような景色を楽しみながら、持続可能なエコツーリズムに焦点のイベントにぴったり合った、美味しくて健康的な食事を提供していただきました。全体的に、日本語スピーカーズフォーラムは、ボホール島の文化と息をのむような美しさを学びながら、日本語のスキルを向上させる素晴らしい機会を与えていただきました。そのおかげで、私はとても感謝しています。

"We discovered the Amarela Resort during our fieldwork, which is a sustainable and environmentally friendly resort. It is one of the country's greenest hotels. The owner wants us to believe that we live in modern civilization, but we must also remember how important it is to maintain a clean and healthy environment. Bohol traditions and culture are showcased at Amarela Resort. These artifacts and paintings were discovered inside this resort. You can actually feel yourself going back in time. They utilize environmentally friendly, green power. The owner also displayed plenty of fruits and veggies from his own garden. This resort is located right in front of Panglao's beautiful beach. Overall, the resort's aesthetics and environment are extremely relaxing and refreshing. Whenever I travel to Bohol, I'll definitely lodge at this hotel."

"We had the chance to visit the Amarela Resort, a boutique beachfront resort located on the Panglao Island of Bohol. The resort offers a variety of accommodations, including rooms, suites, and villas. The interior design of the resort is blended with modern and traditional Filipino touches, local artworks, antique handicrafts, and furniture showcasing the rich culture of the Philippines and of the Boholanos. They also offer private balconies or verandas that display picturesque views of the resort’s gardens, pool, or sea. "As we did our fieldwork, we got to go to the Loboc River Tourism Complex, where the floating restaurants are. We had a brief discussion about the tourism profile of Loboc, which I found interesting. But the thing that caught my attention was the indication of the water level during Typhoon Odette, which clearly affected their work. But in spite of this, they still have their way to turn this catastrophe into a work of art, as they used labod, also known as mud or dirt from the typhoon, to create artwork

"One of the many places we’ve been to in this three-day journey is the Loboc River Complex. Its pristine waters, magnificent floating restaurants, and its amazing story of revival captivated me. I witnessed how clean it was and felt in the residents’ hearts the great appreciation and care they have for nature. When Typhoon Odette struck this place, all were left to crumbs. What used to be beautiful and bustling, now in a bleak, dead, and struggling phase. However, this did not hinder the people of Loboc to stop striving. Using the mud that hampered their livelihoods, they made art works that’re now worth thousands of pesos. Using this tragedy, they were able to educate people on the importance of nature and inspire others to advocate. Through their love of the environment, the damages led them to revival."

"It was fascinating to see the diminutive primate tarsiers in their own natural habitat. Meeting their large and soulful eyes with their very adorable faces makes me want to keep them in my pocket. They are truly one of the most amazing species in the world, and it is a great honor to meet them in person.
More fascinating information about Tarsiers was shared with us by the person from whom the scientific name of Philippine tarsiers, "Carlito syrichta," came, Mr. Carlito Pizarras. Upon interviewing him, I was inspired to treat nature as he did, by preserving extinct species and making tourists responsible when visiting. This inspiration grew as we visited two more locations, the Amarela Beach Resort and our own venue, the Bohol Bee Farm, which have the same aim as people from the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary—to promote ecotourism. These places have followed the sustainable route in tourism, which sets a good example for other private sectors to follow."
