JSCE MaaS subcommittee

About us

The MaaS subcommittee (Sub Research Committee of Comprehensive Research on MaaS with Practice, Evidence and Theory) is established under the Committee of Infrastructure Planning and Management of JSCE (Japan Society of Civil Engineers).

Aims and Scope

Since 2019, regarded as “the first year of MaaS of Japan”, various MaaS-related pilot projects (model projects) have been conducted all over Japan, MaaS is expected to solve various transportation, urban, and lifestyle-related problems and issues faced by urban and rural areas. At present, it faces the problem of not being able to transition from pilot projects to implementation and the mismatch between technological seeds and local needs. Amid a major global mobility transformation trend, Japan is currently facing the crisis of missing the greater opportunity to improve the transportation and sophisticate business.

This research subcommittee will discuss MaaS, which is a major trend in this situation, from both a theoretical perspective as well as accumulated practical and empirical findings.

The purpose of this subcommittee is to conduct comprehensive research on MaaS from practical, empirical, and theoretical perspectives in order to contribute to the advancement of the mobility environment, QoL, and transportation business through the social implementation of MaaS, which is also being studied in practice. In particular,
