Welcome to the Jo Richardson Community School web page for A level History. Throughout this site you will have find all the necessary things you will need to become a successful A level historian. The JRCS history department has been very successful at KS5 and our results are often strong:

A five day trip to Rome and Berlin

Two students per year are selected to take part in the Lessons from Auschwitz project which enables them to visit the infamous death camp, take part in seminars from the Holocaust Trust and present a project at school.

Trips to the National Maritime Museum and National Army Museum and a day of lectures from top historians.

The exam board we use for the history A level course is Edexcel which is the same as our GCSE course. The A level is aimed to test numerous skills. The main elements of the history A level is to test your knowledge recall, analysis and evaluations skills and your ability to manipulate sources and historical interpretations.

Your history A level will consist of three externally assessed units across two years. All exams are completed at the end of Year 13.

Year 12:

Paper 1: Germany and West Germany, 1918-1989 - a breadth study with interpretations, worth 30% of the total qualification

Paper 2: The rise and fall of fascism in Italy, c1911-1946 - a depth study with sources, worth 20% of the total qualification

Year 13:

Paper 3: The British experience of warfare, c1790-1918 - a thematic study in breadth with aspects in depth, worth 30% of the total qualification

Coursework: internally assessed and externally moderated, worth 20% of total qualification
