Charge Pipes & Intercooler
I eventually decided to clock the compressor facing downward to simplify the inlet/outlet plumbing of the turbo. This allowed for much cleaner plumbing for the turbo inlet and charge pipes to follow. The inlet pipe feeds directly into the turbo inlet with only 2 minor bends, and the charge pipe runs between the engine mount and subframe, back out to the front of the car. To mount the intercooler I made some small brackets out of aluminum to bolt it to the core support. Since I was running 2" charge pipes and the smallest intercooler I could find had 2 1/2" inlet/outlet, I to fabricate a very tight bend and also transition from 2" to 2.5" pipe for the intercooler. To fabricate the charge pipe from the intercooler to the throttle body I bought a 2" to 3" trumpet from Burns Stainless. I welded the stock DSM blow off valve flange to the transition.
