Captions
-The first two words of a caption should be in all caps. Exceptions should be made up to four words to allow for a more graceful caption. Ex: FORMER PRIME MINISTER Theresa May and not FORMER PRIME minister Theresa May. Occasionally a caption could have but one word in all caps: EFRAT. TripAdvisor has stood firm in its refusal to delist properties in Judea and Samaria.
-Rarely is the “Israeli” or “IDF” needed when describing our defense and security forces. Just write: SOLDIERS PATROL near the border...
-Do not write leaders “shake hands” or the minister “holds a press conference.” Write “meet” or “address the media.”
-Captions should always have a verb (save for certan situations)
-As in datelines, well-known cities do not need their country appended. Simply write: ...during a rally in Beirut marking al-Quds Day.
-The official residences of the prime minister and president, the Supreme Court, the Knesset, parliaments in capitals that are well-known (following the guidelines of datelines) as well as well-known residences (Ex: the White House, 10 Downing Street) and landmarks (Western Wall, Eiffel Tower &c.) do not need a city in the caption. GERMAN CHANCELLOR Angela Merkel attends a swearing-in ceremony in July in the Bundestag.
-Our prime ministers and presidents need no directional identification (first left, &c.). The same is true for well-known leaders, ex: Kim, Trump, Merkel, Johnson &c.
-Captions are in the simple present (walks, meets, &c.) when they are describing the action in the photo.
-When a file photo is used to preview an event or is used to describe an event from the past, simple present is used with a second sentence giving more detail from the story.
Ex: The photo is of Paul McCartney in his Tel Aviv performance in 2008.
Caption: PAUL MCCARTNEY performs in Tel Aviv in 2008. He will be performing in the City that Never Sleeps in December.
If the graphic designer makes it aware that there is extremely limited space just describe the action (sometimes a verb may not even be necessary due to space constraints)
