Since I am majoring in Physics Education, I was placed at SLU Laboratory High School for my teaching practice. The school day runs from 7:40 AM to 3:25 PM, with two breaks: a morning break and a lunch break. This school has a simple design, beautiful scenery and a very unique school architecture with warm chat colors because the weather there is so cold.
Academic Support System
Classroom Conditions in the STEM F
SLU Laboratory High School offers a comprehensive range of facilities to support learning. Each classroom is equipped with a TV that serves as a projector, a spacious whiteboard, and comfortable, well-maintained chairs. The classrooms are very comfortable with electricity and free Wi-fi that can be accessed by all members of the school community. Due to the naturally cool climate, the school does not require air conditioning or fans. Additionally, the school features well-equipped biology, chemistry, and physics labs, providing excellent resources for students to conduct practical experiments. Each classroom has two doors: one at the front and one at the back. These doors allow students to enter and exit without disrupting the learning process, especially if they need to leave while the teacher is instructing. There is also a place for students to print at a relatively cheap price. There are so much stairs in there, they also have elevator but the students or the teachers always use stairs.
Teaching System
Egg Drop Project
After conducting classroom observations, I found that SLU Laboratory High School applies the student-centered method, which is a learning approach that focuses on students as the center of the learning process. In this method, students play an active role in finding, understanding, and developing knowledge, while teachers function more as facilitators or guides than as the main source of information.
