Who is eligible to become a member of DAR:

Any woman 18 years or older, who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.

How is Patriot defined?

DAR recognizes as Patriots not only soldiers, but also anyone who contributed to the cause of American freedom. Click here for a complete list of accepted service.

If you think you are eligible for membership, we are happy to help you document your ancestry.

Please note that you may be required to order certificates and other documentation from different states in order to prove your lineage, and there may be fees that will be charged from the courthouses, libraries, or other institutions.

There will also be fees/dues required at the time of your application.
