Every volume opens with four stated purposes:
Music to cultivate character — love, courtesy, discipline
Music to awaken the mind — perseverance, precision, creativity
Music as play — fun, joy, enjoyment
Music to build community — mutual help, sharing, harmony
Wong puts it plainly in his teachers' handbook: learning the violin is not the goal. Awakening the mind, building harmony, and enjoying music are the goals. The violin is the vehicle; character and beauty are the destination.
