I am an accomplished World Language Educator with 13 years of expertise in teaching, leadership, curriculum design, professional development, coaching, and team management, with a proven record of fostering language proficiency and intercultural competence through innovative, research-based pedagogy. I have taught since 2012 at a public high school in Maryland. Currently, I teach German 1, 2, 3, and 4, am the chair of the department of World Languages at my school, and sponsor our school chapter of the German National Honor Society. In the past, I have taught Spanish 1, French 1 and 2, as well as the universal languages of music and cooking. I earned my M.A. in Teaching Foreign Languages from Michigan State University in 2021 and my B.A. in German from Towson University in 2012, and hold an Advanced Professional Certificate in teaching and an Administrator 1: Supervisor and Assistant Principal Certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education.
Throughout my 13-year career as a passionate World Languages educator, department leader, and curriculum specialist, I have been deeply committed to supporting student growth, teacher development, and meaningful curricular innovation. At the same time, I’ve felt a growing pull toward expanding my impact beyond the classroom and local school system. My goal is to help influence the direction of world language instruction on a broader scale—supporting teachers, districts, and institutions across the country as they strive to implement research-based practices, cultivate intercultural competence, and ensure equitable access to high-quality language education.
This website showcases evidence of my proficiency as a language teacher and highlights examples of my work and reflections from my experience in the Master of Arts in Foreign Language Teaching (MAFLT) program at Michigan State University. You will also find my teaching philosophy, demonstration of my practices, credentials, and more.
I enrolled in the MAFLT program because I wanted a comprehensive and practical education that was specific to the unique, complex, and challenging field of foreign language teaching. I wanted to deepen my understanding of the nature of language, language acquisition, communication, and culture in order to be able to approach my practice from a more informed, principled foundation, and develop the knowledge and skills for eliciting positive change in curriculum, instruction, and assessment of foreign languages.
