Robotic manipulators, mobile robots, and autonomous platforms for inspection, welding and assembly, will enable in situ fabrication in both Earth and extraterrestrial environments. This focuses on precision actuation, structurally optimized mechanisms, and modular multi-body architectures capable of supporting autonomous assembly and repair operations. These efforts align with NASA’s On-Orbit Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (OSAM), an initiative aimed at enabling robotic technologies for fabrication, servicing, and maintenance of large-scale infrastructure.
