Dream Roles
As I complete the Ed.S. program in Instructional Technology, I have spent more time reflecting on the direction I want my career to take. My experience as a special education teacher, social studies teacher, and now my transition into 6th grade Special Education Language Arts has helped me see how much I value supporting diverse learners, designing meaningful instruction, and helping students build confidence.
One of my long-term professional goals is to move into a role as an Instructional Technology and Innovation Coach. This type of position would allow me to combine my classroom experience, special education background, and instructional design skills to support both teachers and students. I enjoy helping educators use technology in ways that are purposeful, accessible, and connected to student learning rather than simply using tools for the sake of using them.
The Ed.S. program has also helped me see career possibilities beyond the traditional classroom. I can envision myself working as an instructional designer, curriculum developer, executive function coach, or digital learning specialist. I am also interested in opportunities connected to online learning, teacher training, homeschool networks, tutoring organizations, educational technology companies, or corporate learning and development. These roles would allow me to use my strengths in planning, coaching, communication, and technology integration in a broader way.
Short-Term Goals: 2–3 Years
Over the next two to three years, I plan to continue growing as a classroom educator while strengthening my skills in special education, literacy instruction, and instructional technology. As I transition into 6th grade Special Education Language Arts, I want to become more confident with reading instruction, progress monitoring, IEP implementation, and differentiated learning strategies.
During this time, I also hope to continue building my leadership capacity by supporting colleagues with technology integration, sharing resources, and participating in collaborative planning. I want to use what I have learned in the Ed.S. program to become a resource for other teachers, especially when it comes to designing engaging lessons, using digital tools effectively, and creating accessible learning experiences for students.
In addition, I would like to continue expanding my professional portfolio through freelance or side projects related to curriculum design, digital learning, tutoring, or executive function coaching. These experiences will help me prepare for future roles outside of or beyond the traditional classroom setting.
Long-Term Goals: 5+ Years
Looking ahead five years or more, I see myself in a leadership role that connects education, technology, and coaching. My ideal path would be to serve as an Instructional Technology and Innovation Coach, where I could support teachers, design professional learning, model technology-enhanced instruction, and help schools implement tools that improve student outcomes.
I can also see myself working in instructional design, educational consulting, corporate training, or digital curriculum development. These roles would allow me to design learning experiences for students, teachers, or adult learners while continuing to use the skills I have developed throughout the Ed.S. program. My background in special education, instructional technology, leadership, and coaching gives me a unique perspective on how to create learning experiences that are practical, accessible, and meaningful.
No matter which direction my career takes, I know the skills I have gained through this program will continue to guide me. Learning how to analyze learner needs, design engaging instruction, evaluate technology tools, and lead others through change has prepared me to think beyond my own classroom. My goal is to continue growing as an educator, designer, and leader who uses technology to support learning, build capacity, and create meaningful opportunities for others.
