Significant Learning Experiences
Completing the Ed.S. in Instructional Technology program has greatly shaped the way I view myself as an educator, instructional designer, and future technology leader. When I began the program, I had experience using technology in the classroom, but I now have a deeper understanding of how to design meaningful, accessible, and engaging learning experiences for diverse learners. Through projects involving online learning, instructional design, UDL, AI tools, and technology integration, I learned how to think more strategically about instruction rather than simply adding digital tools to a lesson.
This program also strengthened my confidence as a leader and coach. Whether I was designing learning modules, creating professional development resources, supporting colleagues, or connecting technology to student needs, I grew in my ability to communicate clearly and guide others through instructional change. These experiences have prepared me to move beyond the role of classroom teacher and continue growing toward my goal of becoming an Instructional Technology and Innovation Coach.
Eye-Opening Courses
Two courses that had a strong impact on me were Designing Technology-Enhanced Instruction and Diffusion of Innovations. Designing Technology-Enhanced Instruction helped me understand how to intentionally align standards, learning goals, assessments, and digital tools. This course pushed me to think about accessibility, engagement, pacing, and how students interact with content in online and blended environments. It also helped me strengthen my ability to design instruction that supports students with different learning needs, which connects closely to my background in special education.
Diffusion of Innovations was especially meaningful because it helped me understand why change can be difficult in schools. As someone who wants to support teachers with instructional technology, this course reminded me that successful implementation requires more than introducing a new tool. Teachers need time, support, modeling, encouragement, and a clear understanding of how the change benefits students. This course helped me approach leadership with more empathy, patience, and strategy.
Key Assignments
The Grant Proposal Project connected strongly to my growth in leadership and vision. It allowed me to identify a real instructional need and think through a solution that could support students, teachers, and the larger school community. This assignment helped me see how data, stakeholder input, planning, and technology can work together to create meaningful school improvement. It also strengthened my confidence in advocating for resources and designing solutions that extend beyond my own classroom.
The Mini Microlearning Project on Misinformation was another important assignment because it challenged me to design instruction in a format that was concise, engaging, and relevant to today’s learners. Creating microlearning helped me think about how students consume information and how educators can use short, focused learning experiences to build understanding. Together, these assignments helped me grow as a purposeful designer who considers learner needs, real-world application, and long-term impact.
Impactful Readings and Interactions
The readings, journal reflections, discussions, and peer interactions throughout the program helped me see technology as more than a collection of tools. I began to view technology as a way to solve instructional problems, remove barriers, increase access, and improve learning outcomes. Readings on universal design, student-centered learning, artificial intelligence, and instructional leadership helped me reflect on my own teaching practices and consider how I can better support both students and colleagues.
Peer discussions were also valuable because they exposed me to different perspectives and real-world challenges from other educators. These conversations encouraged me to continue experimenting, reflecting, and improving. As I move forward in my career, I will carry with me the importance of being a reflective practitioner, a collaborative leader, and an educator who uses technology with purpose.
