World Building
Eden: Salvation has been in development for over a year, I first built an atlas of the entire universe. A small prototype which may be missing a couple of pieces but for the most part included major planets, protagonist and antagonist, and hybrids.
In the atlas it contains information that relates to before the time of when Eden: Salvation starts. How things fall into place before it really proceeds into the next arc. In the timeline of Eden, I would say this is the ending of a 3 major part story. 4 If you include how the atlas starts off. The other parts would be what happens right after the atlas and what led to Eden: Salvation.
What Eden: Salvation covers are worlds that has been completely taken over by animal hybrids and these memories that have been locked away in our scientist. They start to slowly remember who they are and what they were doing before being trapped inside a hybrid body.
Sprinkled in their memories are memories that our scientist seem to have no recollection of. It is up to players to interpret what came of these memories and how this all really happened.
The story from all playable characters will help give insight into how this all came to be.
Enemies
The enemies in Eden: Salvation come from my love of playing as a Druid in most RPGs. I love the idea of being an animal or hybrid animals. The more shapeshifted they are, the better.
These enemies are the results of Eden being abandoned for nearly decades. Their minds have become twisted and follow the instruction of one being. As noted from their appearance some willingly allow their minds to be taken control of in hope for stronger power. Others who were not so willing were branded with a mysterious rune, not much information is out there for others to research. Lastly we have a type of enemy that is imbued with crystals that vary between planets. This allows them to unlock certain body enchantments that normal hybrids wouldn't have access to.
Lastly bosses can be found on their respective planets, these enemies come with 3-4 unique mechanics. When entering their rooms, our scientist will have something to say about their appearances or even hints about procedures. The boss below has a slam attack, slash attack, and will turn around to shoot out the spikes in its back. When reaching half hp the boss will shake the room causing rubble to fall around the room.
System Designs
The systems that I designed for Eden includes a dialogue, leveling, talent, and upgrade system.
The dialogue system allows players to learn about the characters they are playing and interact with items they find throughout the levels. The character dialogue system has a chance to happen every new wave and another chance to start normal dialogue or as I like to call it secret dialogue. The interactions dialogue all have their own unique dialogues for each character and there are items that all players can find. Some items are made specifically for certain characters so players will have to play as those characters to use the items.
The leveling system allows players to see when they will be able to pick a new upgrade while out in the world fighting off hybrids. The levels can also be used to upgrade general stats for all players in the talent menu. Lastly players can use their levels to rebirth and increase how much experience they earn. Rebirthing will also unlock a hidden memory from one of the characters which would show a quick cut scene of the pass.
The talent system allows players to unlock more upgrades for the character that they play. For every hybrid they defeat, they will gain 1 currency. Once they have the amount needed to unlock a talent they will be able to click it and unlock it. Some talents require to have another talent first.
The upgrade system is only in the open world area and allows players to choose from over 10 upgrades which can be increase damage, speed, an octopus arm, summoning bees, or letting out a demoralizing roar. Upon maxing out all the upgrades the players will take on the guardians that get placed at those planets.
