Jordy Valderrama
Formed as a mime, actor, dancer, and puppeteer. Jordy Valderrama produces, directs, and writes adaptations for theatre, dance, circus, and puppet shows. He has attended courses with renowned international figures of the Dramatic Arts in Peru, Costa Rica, Spain, France, the USA, and the United Kingdom. He studied mime and masks with Norma Berrade, Argentinian mime and director. Moved to contemporary dance and ballet from these grounds and later on studied Classical Theatre at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and at the Desmond Jones School of Mime in London, in the United Kingdom, through a full-stipend Grant from the British Council in 1988-89.
Professor Valderrama is also a Licensed Teacher of Art Education with a major in Dramatic Arts, and he graduated in 2017 from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Finland as a Vocational Teacher (Ammatillinen Opettaja -AmO) recognized as a Pedagogue by the Finnish National Agency for Education. He has widely taught, directed, and performed Mime, Circus, Dance, Puppets, and Drama at schools, universities, and educational institutions for the last 38 years.
Theatre Pedagogy and Show Management are part of his expertise, which also includes lighting, costumes, and scenery design; he has also attended facial prosthetics and Puppets for TV courses through scholarships given by the Ministry of Culture in Madrid and UNIMA Spain in the TOPIC of Tolosa.
He has also performed and directed in Peru, the United Kingdom, Costa Rica, and since 2016 lived and performed in Finland. Founder and director of the Puppet Theatre Company Transeúntes Teatro de Títeres and co-founder and board member of KULKIJAT ry intercultural association based in Helsinki, where he gives workshops, builds media networking, and produces events.
Member of UNIMA Finland, Aurinko - música de Latinoamérica, and Catalysti Transcultural Artists in Finland, where he supervised media networks and events until January 2019. An active member of Aurinko, where he plays in workshops and produces videos. He also filmed the China tour of the Helsinki Metropolitan Orchestra and, more recently, launched LOF: a project about the Library of the Future being here in Finland.
He lives in Vantaa, Uusima and works and teaches in Finland. Mime, acrobatics, juggling, dance, and clown techniques for children at Circus Helsinki. He also teaches and directs the group "Teatro en Español en Helsinki". From 2016 to 2019, he participated in The Savonlinna Opera Festival as a stage-fight choreographer, as a fencer, and actor; he also worked as a language interpreter.
In 2020, he adapted and directed Pekka ja Susi, by Sergei Prokofiev, with the Espoo school of theatre and circus Esko, and an orchestra conducted by Pekka Helasvuo, with the Finnish actor and musician Antti Reini.
In 2021, he launched the LOF documentary, The Library of the Future, with Kulkijat ry. And began a film project of documentaries on Finnish museums.
In 2022, he participated in an art residency organized by GAP (Globe Art Point) and the municipalities of Porvoo and Sipoo with four other artists for the project called Art goes Villages, which was performed in these two cities in June.
In 2023, he produced and filmed a video for an English-speaking audience for Moniheli, about Hobbies in Finland, to promote the application of the Nuorisolaki or Youngsters´ Law Act. Also, act as a Supervisor in a social and pedagogic experience project between Kulkijat ry association with DIAK students to promote well-being amongst migrant families to tackle the impact of the misuse of electronic gadgets, with Moniheli as the main grant supporter.
Actually retired, but still teaching in Circus Helsinki, and directs the Spanish Theatre group of Helsinki. Projects include Mimo ja Viola, a performance that received a grant from the city of Vantaa.
In 2025, he directed Mariposa Blanca by Chilean dramatist, and in collaboration with Talent Tupa ry in English, The Bani Fahman story, a play written by El Sayed Fahim. During this year, he was also the chairman of Kulkijat ry where "El Toke Festival of music and Arts" took place. He has also been a board member of Globe Art Point since April 2025.
He is currently teaching Theatre with the support of Kansalaisfoorumi and organising projects with Kulkijat ry as a board member.
Erasmus+ has recently certified Kulkijat for an EU grant mobility to assist shadow learning in another European country, to be appointed next spring 2026.
