The goal of this project is to create an open and welcoming office space that successfully encompasses themes of hygge, collaboration, technology. The theme of hygge will be exhibited using ambient lighting making the space feel open and welcoming. The under-cabinet lighting will help ensure that tasks can easily be done by a variety of users. Sustainability is shown through the ability to have multiple switches and being able to choose the amount of lighting need for each task. Incorporating a pendant above the sink not only allows for a decorative aspect, it also continues to allow the users to choose which light source they need based on the task they are completing.

Schematic Design

The direction behind the design was to show the brand of the company next within their work space. Within the design there will be a implementation of multiple kinds of work spaces. The majority of the work spaces will be designed with an open office aspect.

The core of the office was a public space within the building, and was not within the scope of the project. Next's office was a split between two different areas within the ground floor of the office space. The public and private spaces within my design are separated to ensure that workers still have the ability to complete tasks without being distracted. By separating public and private spaces employees have the ability to leave their work environment while still being within walking distance of their office.

Concepts

The goal of this project is to create a work space that is welcoming and inviting and to also encourage collaboration. To ensures that the work space can fully support a more collaborative environment, I will use ceiling clouds as well as kinetex carpet tiles to help with acoustics. Due to the integration of more technology within the work space, I am specifying Thread to ensure that all work spaces have power capability. Hygge will be incorporated consistently through the use of color, natural light, and furniture to create a comfortable and welcoming environment. The color scheme as well as the furniture selected will all mirror the Colorado landscape to help bring the outside in to the space.

Selected Materials

The LVT flooring was selected for the durability and cleanability aspect. Due to the location of the project ebing in Colorado, the flooring had to be able to stand up to the exterior environment. The Kinetex flooring helps with impact absorption which will allow for the workers to be able to stand on it for long periods of time if they decide to utilize they sit to stand desks. The carpet tile and kinetex also help with sound absorption since the majority of the space is open office. The fabrics used were all commercial grade fabrics and will be durable enough in an office setting.
