I am a 7th grade Math teacher at Wheeler Middle School in Wahiawa, Hawaii. Wheeler Middle School is located on the Schofield Barracks in Wahiawa, HI. The majority of my students (98%) have parents actively serving in the military on the Wheeler Airfield Base. The large majority of these students live in military housing on base and therefore do not have a far commute to school each day. My students are 35% white, 29% Hispanic, 15% African-American, and 21% other, making Wheeler's student populatin very diverse. Wheeler is a very dynamic environment as well; my students are frequently entering and leaving throughout the year due to military leave. Last year, I had about 10 students enter class (at random points during the year) and about 10 students leave over the course of the year. We are a close-knit community, and I see parents often during pickup and dropoff.
