Age Group: Sophomores primarily (to satisfy job shadow requirement)
Time Requirements: 3 hours including lunch on SIP day
Description of Program: Basically ‘speed dating’ about career choices and career paths with a variety of working professionals at the Refinery. We invite 40-50 students through the JT office of community partnerships to come to the refinery for lunch. Then our team spends about 10 minutes at each table talking about their job/career/education with the students and asking them about their interests and aspirations. We host one meeting for young women and have them meet with our female professionals and a meeting the following month for young men who meet with our male professionals.
Learning Targets: They are able to get a broad overview of a variety of professions and have conversations with a number of adults who are interested and relatable to high school students. The main message is you don’t know exactly what you want to be when you’re 15 and here are a few options to start thinking about what you want to do for the rest of high school and beyond.
