The Federal Background Check requires applicants to submit fingerprints at an authorized facility. The most recognized company is Idemia/IdentoGO. The fingerprint check costs $22.60. A form is submitted online and then the applicant will report at a scheduled date/time for the fingerprints to be completed. The records are often mailed directly to the applicant, who will photocopy the results and provide a copy to the Board for their records.

PATCH (The State Police Request for Criminal Records) check costs $22.00 and can be completed online. The results are usually instantaneous. Once completed, print a copy for your records. The record will provide a control number that should be given to the Library for their records. The PATCH record is free for volunteers.
The Child Abuse History Clearance check costs $13 for staff and can be completed online. The results may not be instantaneous. The clearance check is free for volunteers. Result information should be provided to the Library for their records.
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and youth employment standards affecting employees in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local governments. Covered nonexempt workers are entitled to a minimum wage of not less than $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009. Overtime pay at a rate not less than one and one-half times the regular rate of pay is required after 40 hours of work in a workweek unless an employee is considered exempt.

To qualify for FMLA benefits, an employee must; 1) work for an employer who employees 50 or more people; 2) have worked for that employer for a total of 12 months; 3) have worked at least 1,250 hours over the previous 12 months; 4) work at a location in the United States or in any territory or possession of the United States where at least 50 employees are employed by the employer within 75 miles. This latter stipulation exempts many small business owners from FMLA rules and guidelines.
