If you have ever heard the phrase, "Keep Republicans out of your bedroom and Democrats out of your wallet," then you already know that this is a major Libertarian point of view. We are socially liberal and fiscally conservative. We seek to optimize government to not only enable efficiency and responsiveness, but to grant more freedom to the local citizenry.
Freedom of Association: We don't believe in forcing people to gather together or preventing those from doing so if they desire it. If two men want to get married, someone wants to set up a drag show, or another wants gender re-assignment surgery and the government is not funding it we should mind our own business. We are adults and we should be able to make our own decisions.
True Respect for Veterans: By this, we mean do not send young people off to die in senseless wars that have nothing to do with national security. Entire families have been devastated for several generations as a result of reckless foreign policy and so have local communities as a result.
Freedom of Speech: We actually believe in freedom of assembly and the right to protest peacefully, unlike some state Republicans and sadly some so called "progressives." Fortunately, this county has been better about this than others.
Freedom of Choice: We don't like regulations that say that one has to partake in goods and services. Even without the penalty for not having health insurance, the Affordable Care Act actually limits one's choices in how they can have their medical expenses covered. Credit Unions exist as an alternative to banks. Alternatives to Health Insurance should be allowed to as well.
Fiscal Freedom and Responsibility: We do not agree with overly taxing people to death nor do we believe in reckless spending. So called "conservatives" have been guilty of both as well with wanting the military to have more money no matter what and trying to tell others that they can't purchase items of an adult nature.
True Opposition to the War On Drugs: Some "progressives" may claim to support the legalization of marijuana, but they tend to balk at individuals wanting to try experimental treatments in the name of "safety." We do not wish for overtaxing of drugs either as a way of discouraging use.
