St. Thomas the Martyr has changed significantly since John Thruston (1606) was a member there and was buried in it's graveyard. The church was deemed unsafe for use and was rebuilt between 1791-1793. The 15th century tower was retained.
A substantial reordering was carried out by William Venn Gough between 1878 and 1880, and the top of the tower was remodeled with spirelet, pinnacles, and pierced parapet by Gough in 1896–97.
Perhaps one of these gravestones is John Thruston's.
