St. Mary's church in West Buckland has many ties to the Thruston family. Justian Fursland, mother of John Thruston (1606) was buried here in 1651. Edward Thruston (1589), brother of John Thruston, was buried in the chancel of the church in 1653. Many generations of Edward's descendants were also buried in the chancel.
John Thruston wrote the following about the death of his mother:
"The later End of febr 1651 my mother was Burried in ye pish church of Buckland".
Modern photo of the church:
Rubbing of a stone tablet (ledger stone) in the chancel of West Buckland Church. This rubbing is heavily damaged/smudged but you can still make out some of the words.
R. C. Ballard Thruston identified this as "Slab 3".
R. C. Ballard Thruston identified Edward Thruston (1589) and his descendants names that were engraved on this ledger stone (Slab 3) marking their burials in the chancel.
I'm attempting to get better photos of these ledger stones at St. Mary's church. I've reached out to the church a few times, but so far have not received any response.
