Supplementa Johannica

This page will be things about John that I've come across since finishing up the website.

The ones he left behind: John's two cats, Rosie and Levon. Soon to be relocated to our house in New Braunfels.

Lometa: John made a few trips alone. These are photos from a roll of film that was in a camera I found in his car's glove compartment. Probably a trip made in late January or Febuary when I was incapicitated with some chopped off fingertips. Note. John's charcoal pit in action.

John embroidered Guy Debord's famous image "Society Spectacle" on a t-shirt. Unfortunately it's kind of a crappy t-shirt but it's beautiful embroidery.

My most sincere condolences are with you mourning the loss of your fine son. John became a regular & almost daily guest at Pacha during the second half of 2019 and quickly won the friendship of several Baristas and myself. He made a solid impression on many of us with friendly conversations over his standard 2 shots of espresso + a bagel. I always appreciated John's good vibes, insightful way of seeing the world, and his original collage art he shared sometimes. I am truly saddened to know that he will not be gracing our little cafe with his presence again.

Antelope Horns, one of John's favorite plants which proliferates up at Lometa. Like several other species of milkweed, A. asperula is a food for monarch butterfly caterpillars. Along with being a source of nutrition for monarchs, the plants also contain toxic cardiac glycosides (Cardenolides) that the monarchs retain, making them unpalatable and poisonous to predators.

A notebook that seems to be from his high school days. Anybody know what the strange alphabet means? It has a long essay about the death of Boots, ano old Siamese cat inherited from his Uncle Robert, which died suddenly one night in 16 yr old John' arms on the way to an emergency vet at midnight not long after we took him in. Hope to publish if I can decipher John's handwriting.

We went to see Gladiator in 1992. John and I played at gladiator combat afterwards and he drew this picture.

Anna personalized this poster when she was in the second grade and she and john shared a room here in New Braunfels.

March, 2021: I was going through some of John's books that I am not keeping to sell. I found this water-soaked copy of the Cortazar book. When I opened its pages, it was full of pressed flowers. This is such a perfect relic of John's love of the small beauties of this world (and the larger ones, like Cortazar).
