Subject Specific Learning Objectives
Learning objectives will be defined to align with the following key development areas that we focus on in our classroom.
Social Development (Social, Emotional, Interpersonal and Intrapersonal Skills)
Chinese Language Development
English Language Development
Physical Development (Gross and Fine Motor Skills)
STEAM
Social Development
Students able to identify at least one reason why too much waste can be damaging.
(Related to awareness of society at large. They are also practicing the 21st century skills of global awareness and environmental literacy. In the purpose of building up towards this also, higher level thinking.)
Students able to complete a self-assessment for the project containing valid points for strengths and areas of development.
(Here they are practicing self-assessment skills.)
Students able to complete a peer-assessment form for the project, with a valid point for strength, area of development, and also a strength their classmate brought to the group work.
(This will show developing awareness of other people. Giving constructive, but sensitive feedback, will also practice the 21st century skill of communication.)
Students able to identify at least one way in which they can reduce waste in their life.
(Here they are practicing the 21st century skill critical thinking as they reflect on their life. )
Chinese Language Development
Students able to describe the process of constructing their eventual product, identifying what was challenging and whether they enjoyed the process, with reasons.
Students effectively able to communicate with members of the school to find new information regarding waste in the school.
(This practices the 21st century skill of communication. Also collaberation as they work with Grade 3 students within this.)
English Language Development
Some differentiation required here, as students at different levels of English.
For the stronger students, the objectives can be the same as for Chinese.
For students in general, the following objectives can be set.
Students able to use the words "strong", "flexible" and "stretchy" to describe materials.
Students able to use the words, "reduce", "reuse" and "recycle".
Students able to name common materials and objects that can be reused that are found in school.
Students able to use the sentences "We are making ________." and "This is for _______." with guidance to fill in the gaps to describe their work.
Physical Development
Students able to contribute to a complete construction of a product through repurposing materials.
(Here they are developing fine motor and possibly gross motor skills.)
STEAM (Art incorporated)
Students able to note how many individual items are recycled in each of their lives. (Mathematics)
Students able to identify key properties of materials - strong/durable, flexible and elastic. (Science)
Students able to work in a group to repurpose waste materials to create a product. (Engineering)
(In the process, they are practicing higher level thinking and the 21st century skills of problem solving, creativity and collaberation.)
Students able to produce a piece of art related to waste or the creation they make (Art)
Students able to make a collage of pictures showing a process or an online poster showing the process. (Technology)
