Evaluation Process
Evaluation Process
Teacher - Student
Due to the age of the students, there will be a less strict and numerical evaluation process. The most important thing is that all students are able to grow and develop throughout the project based on their own needs. At this age especially, it is vitally important that the focus is on nurturing innate curiosity and love for learning, rather than assessment. All students and groups should be given teacher input and feedback as necessary. Main feedback should be delivered vocally or by other means in a way that the student can easily understand.
This said, there will be an evaluation form the teacher can fill in based around the learning objectives, for more objective feedback to parents, and as information to provide to primary school.
An evaluation form will be used, covering the key areas of the project.
Teacher-Student evaluation form.
Self-Assessment
Students have only had limited self-assessment practice in previous activities and this will hence be a very new activity for them. Hence, there will be a big focus in the process of building up and developing the self-assessment ability.
Students can be given the opportunity to self-assess the following.
The log for reducing waste.
The rest of the process. Any factor they wish to discuss.
Due to the age, students will have the freedom to give less restricted feedback in order to nurture creativity.
They can use the following form in both cases. The student can write a sentence or draw a picture, with the teacher's support, which will also support writing development. ue to the age, students will have the freedom to give less restricted feedback in order to nurture creativity.
The evaluation for the reducing waste log can serve as a first practice.
The evaluation form will be clearly explained to students first.
Peer-Assessment
Despite the age of the students, the students have already had practice giving each other peer feedback on weekly presentations they give on their home activities.
The project can be used as an opportunity to take this further.
There will be the opportunity for peer review for each of the following activities.
The log of reducing waste.
The overall process of product construction and any related follow-up activities within the group.
For the log of reducing waste, the process will start with a small number of more confident students presenting their work to the class. Then people will offer feedback within this whole group setting.
Next students will be put in pairs. Within the pair, they will give a presntation to each other. With teacher support if neccessary, they can each give at least one thing they really like and one thing they think could be improved. Students will be with others whom they work well with. This will be done through speaking for now. Teachers will be present to guide if necessary. However, due to the age, students will have the freedom to give less restricted feedback in order to nurture creativity.
Then, at the end of the group project, each individual will be given two people from their group (one if two may be too difficult or there are time constraints). Now that they have experience with the feedback form from the self-assessment, they can use the one for peer-assessment.
In addition to this, there will be the opportunity for group verbal feedback from the rest of the class as they present their product.
