Planning is often an essential part of my workflow, most notably for larger projects. Since starting my college course I have realised the importance of storyboarding, and the enjoyment I get out of it. Storyboarding was never a work-field I had even considered before, but in recent times has grown on me a lot - especially considering how essential it is for animations even more so than other mediums.Â
Above is the earliest planning for the animation I worked on for my final college project. As you can see, my main goal was perfecting the character designs, which is always a major focus for me and something I feel I am naturally gifted at. Look below to see the storyboarding process:
At this point in time it was set to be an animated version of an improvised story by Scottish comedian Brian Limond - commonly known as Limmy.
The end result was an animation of a different Limmy improv as it was much more manageable due to the time constraints I was faced with. This can be viewed in the Animations / Digital Art section.
This is a storyboard for my 'bunny blue' animated short, which can be watched in its entirety in the Animations / Digital Art section.
This is another, more simple storyboard I was tasked with creating for the opening sequence of a music video project in college.
For my animation 'joe and matt watch planet earth' (which can also be found in the Animations / Digital Art section), I hand-drew every image that was needed and subsequently animated them together in Adobe Premiere Pro. The project required me to figure out every single drawing that would have to be created, and I drew page after page of these as seen below:
